More than likely, since the late 1400’s the horse has been used in Bozeman and other parts of Montana after the Spanish re-introduced it–the Mustang–to North America.
Fun Fact: Horse racing first came to the Bozeman area in the 1870s, when most everyone who owned property also owned a horse.
By 1878 Bozeman had a local horse race track. But it wasn’t until the Beaumont Club opened in 1954 that Bozeman racing hit the national scene. More on Bozeman’s horse racing history.
Winter Horse Care
Adult horses should consume 1.5–2 percent of their body weight in high-fiber, plant-based vegetation, not simply hay but grass and legumes.
Feed should be supplemented by salt and a vitamin and mineral mix.
Horses can drink from 4-10 gallons of water/day and on the high side when primarily consuming hay.
